CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say a 19-year-old man died Monday night after he fell out of an apartment window at 549 King Street.
The man was pronounced dead on scene, according to Charleston police spokeswoman Karen Nix. The initial call came in at 11:51 p.m. on Monday night and the scene was cleared around 2:44 a.m.
But police are continuing to interview witnesses.
Friends of the victim were visibly upset and did not want to speak on camera.
The management of King Street Public House, which is on the first floor of the building from which the man fell, said it will be closed through Friday.
“Due to the tragedy that occurred in one of the apartments above our establishment, we will be closed until Friday," management of the restaurant said in a statement. "We offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of our neighbor. Our hearts are with you during this extremely difficult time.”
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the victim.
Anyone with additional information about the investigation is encouraged to call the on-duty detective at 843-743-7200.
