SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Summerville Town Council said it supports the decision to not allow outside tennis instruction on the Doty Park courts.
It stems from a longstanding issue with a man who was giving free tennis lessons to disadvantaged kids.
The town said it first allowed James Martin to give the lessons on set days and times back in 2016, but after a month, the town said Martin was causing “difficulties” that escalated into threatening emails.
The town has since disallowed outside instruction at those courts, but offered up the Saul Alexander Playground.
This past summer, the town also sent Martin a notice of trespass to keep him away from Doty Park.
On Thursday night, town council voted to support the town’s actions.
Before that meeting, there was a prayer circle called by Martin’s supporters.
