CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston Police say they have arrested the man accused in a shooting that killed a 35-year-old man.

Tre’ance Smalls is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor.

Smalls was arrested Monday without incident, Pryor said.

The charges stem from a Feb. 4 shooting in the 3300 block of Kraft Avenue in which a man inside an apartment was shot to death.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office last week identified the victim of the shooting as Exavier Washington, 35.

Police responded shortly before 3 p.m. on Feb. 4 to the 3300 block of Kraft Avenue after a caller said that a bullet came through their wall from a nearby apartment. Officers looked inside the apartment and found shell casings and blood on the floor.

Inside, they found Washington lying on the floor of a rear bedroom of the apartment. He died at the scene from a gunshot wound, the coroner’s office said.

He was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing on Tuesday morning.
