DANIEL ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Crews will begin a three-month construction project Monday that will add a single-lane roundabout on Daniel Island.
When complete, the roundabout will be at the intersection of Daniel Island Drive and Seven Farms Drive, Berkeley County spokesperson Hannah Moldenhauer said.
The work will begin with minor construction items to change traffic patterns slightly so crews will have room to work. This step will involve site preparation and coordination with utilties.
Moldenhaur said the county anticipates major construction to begin in the final weeks of April.
The project is expected to take 90 days to complete, depending on the weather. That would put the finish date some time in early August, a timeline county officials say was designed to minimize impact on school traffic.
The roundabout is expected to be operating before the start of the new school year.
This project is part of the Berkeley County 2014 one-cent sales tax program and is within budget, Moldenhaur said. It is expected to cost approximately $2.4 million, including design permitting, right-of-way acquisition, construction and more.
