CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - For years, Eddi Davies loved to paint watercolors of her favorite flower, the rose. But she hasn't painted as often since being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor last December.
"It was an overwhelming diagnosis to be told," said Davies.
After returning home from surgery, Davies met Darcy Whalen, the co-founder of Simply Divine. The organization plants gardens at cancer patients' homes for free. "Hospitals are building more gardens because it brings patients peace," Whalen said. "There's no reason they can't bring that feeling home."
When Davies was asked what flower she wanted, the answer was easy - a rose. Now Davies spends a lot of time at her kitchen table, looking out into her garden. And when she is, she's not thinking about cancer.
"It helps me because I am a person who feels better and uplifted when I see nature. When I drink in the beauty, it is like a breath of fresh air."
And not only does the garden help clear her mind, it has inspired Davies to start painting again.
