Sex offenders on probation/parole will again have Halloween curfew

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services will again have a curfew for registered sex offenders under its supervision for a sex offense.

Halloween Rules for persons on Probation, Parole and other forms of community supervision under the jurisdiction of SCDPPPS are as follows: Curfew is between 5 pm and 9 pm statewide. The rules apply to all persons under supervision for a sex offense. This does not apply to all sex offenders, many of whom are no longer on probation or parole and therefore not under the jurisdiction of SCDPPPS. Curfew will be enforced by spot, on-site residence checks, phone calls and drive-bys in all counties in the state. Sex offenders have been notified there will be no lights on outside their houses, no candy distribution and no participating in Halloween parties or carnivals. Also, there will be no congregating in streets.

Some additional tips for parents on Halloween are not to be alarmed. It is perfectly OK to allow your child to trick-or-treat under supervision. Also, you might want to check the State Law Enforcement Division web site for sex offenders to see if there will be any registered sex offenders in your neighborhood if you are particularly concerned.  That website is (http://services.sled.sc.gov/sor/).
