CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Sanders-Clyde Elementary school is on lockdown, according to a Charleston County School District spokesman.

The district does not know yet whether students will be released at the regular dismissal time of 2:30pm, said Susan Haire.

The school is located at 220 Nassau Street in downtown Charleston. Someone at the school heard what sounded like gunshots nearby and called police, Haire said. There was no evidence that shots were fired on school grounds.
