CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - 13 are dead and another 30 have been injured after an Army Psychiatrist opened fire on his fellow officers at the Army post in Fort Hood, TX. Thursday's incident, however, isn't the first time tragedy has hit the base.
On October 16, 1991, A 35-year-old civilian drove a pickup truck into a Fort Hood cafeteria and fatally shot 23 people and injured 20 more before killing himself.
It was the deadliest shooting rampage in American history until the 2007 Virginia Tech Massacre.
On September 8, 2008, a 1st Lieutenant went looking for missing military equipment at an apartment near Fort Hood. He was shot and killed by a solider from Alabama, who then turned the gun on himself.
And this past July, a 30-year-old soldier from Wisconsin was shot and killed by a bullet fired during a party at Fort Hood. A fellow soldier is charged with the murder.
In the most recent shooting at Fort Hood authorities say Major Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, is responsible.
Hasan is a military psychiatrist who was reportedly upset about being shipped overseas.
He allegedly walked into a processing center Thursday afternoon and opened fire on his fellow comrades.
