COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - The House speaker received the official resolution to impeach Governor Mark Sanford and he has sent the motion to the House judiciary committee.
Bobby Harrell released a statement saying as of now, the governor hasn't done enough to be impeached from office.
House speaker Harrell says the House won't take any official action until the State Ethics Commission report is released.
Mr. Harrell says the report will be public record as soon as Governor Mark Sanford gets it.
He says unless the investigations from the state contain new information about possible crimes or misconduct committed by the governor, there isn't enough proof to get Sanford out of office before his term ends.
The governor is under scrutiny because he left the state without alerting his office to go see his mistress in Argentina. The state is also looking closely at his use of the state plane.
