Web site says South Carolina got stimulus money for congressional districts that don't exist

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - A website run by the federal government claims almost 41 million dollars in stimulus money has gone to 7 congressional districts in our state that are not real.

South Carolina has six congressional districts, one through six.
But the report on Recovery.gov shows districts 0-0 and district 25, just two examples of the fake districts. The White House had no comment on the data error, but some federal officials say it was human error.

The error happened in other states beside South Carolina. Many states had a district listed as district 0-0, even though that didn't exist.

Some Republicans, including Sen. Jim DeMint and Congressman Joe Wilson, say the website's just a ploy to cover up the failure of the stimulus package.A U.S. House committee is scheduled to hold a hearing Thursday about tracking the stimulus spending.
