Police nab suspect in CVS robberies

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Police arrested a Folly Beach man Thursday evening and charged him with the robbery of two CVS pharmacies in the last week.

Nicholas David Swanson, 25, of East Erie Drive has been charged with two counts of armed robbery. Swanson was transported to the Charleston County Detention Center until a bond hearing could be scheduled.

The arrest was a combination of leads developed by detectives after the robberies and the assistance of a concerned citizen.

On Nov. 13, a man approached the pharmacist at the CVS on Harbor View Road and implied he had a gun. He demanded Oxycontin, a prescription pain killer.

About 6:30 pm Wednesday, a second CVS store, on Maybank Highway, was robbed. The suspect handed the teller a note stating he had a gun. He demanded Oxycontin and Oxycodone.

A gun was never shown during the robberies.

The Charleston Police Department was assisted during this operation by the Folly Beach Public Safety, the Charleston County Sheriffs Office, Mount Pleasant Police Department and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Swanson has not been accused of holding up a third CVS in Myrtle Beach, but Oxycontin was the target in that robbery as well.
