NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - After weeks of anticipation, the day has finally arrived. Boeing is expected to break ground at its newest facility in North Charleston on Friday morning.

The groundbreaking will be more of a ceremonial event, and construction is slated to begin in December, according to a Boeing spokesperson.

Local and state leaders, including North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey and Congressman Jim Clyburn, are expected to speak on behalf of the highly anticipated event. They will be joined by Senators Lindsey Graham and Jim Demint as well as several other elected officials who helped bring Boeing to the Palmetto State.

Last month the aeronautic company announced it would open a second assembly line for its 787 jetliner here in North Charleston.

The move will bring more than 3,000 jobs to our area, and is expected to pump millions into the local economy.

Once the newest plant becomes operational, Boeing said they will make three planes a month.

Although it could be a couple of years before Boeing's brand new facility is up and running, the company has some current jobs related to the assembly of the 787 Dreamliner.

Right now, Boeing is looking for Assembly Mechanics and Quality Inspectors. The job pays is $12/hour, however, a Work Keys Assessment is required. The ideal candidate must also be able to work any shift and stand for long periods of time. Prior manufacturing, assembly, electrical construction or military experience is required.
