NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)-The first pile of dirt was scooped out of the ground at the site of the new Boeing plant.  Before construction began, those who made this deal happen spoke to a huge crowd of peers and hundreds of Boeing employees.

"This affirms that South Carolina is one of the best places to do business in the world," said Senator Lindsey Graham.

Boeing CEO James Albaugh spoke of the company's history.

"We helped NASA put a man on the moon."

Now they hope to help South Carolina lower its unemployment rate.  Officials estimate two thousand workers will be needed for construction of the plant and almost four thousand more to work in it.

"We'll all be gone and they will be generation after generation working in this plant," added Governor Sanford.

Governor Sanford said the Boeing project is the single biggest job creation deal in the state's history.  And one reason they chose South Carolina is because of our workers.

"What they proved is that they are second to none."  Congressman Jim Clyburn added that this deal helps South Carolina with their three top priorities.

"Jobs, more jobs, and many more jobs."
