SC beach town overturns council election results

Associated Press - November 21, 2009 2:45 PM ET

ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (AP) - The Atlantic Beach Election Commission has overturned the results of balloting in the South Carolina beach town.

Multiple media outlets reported the commission voted after nine hours of testimony Friday to void the election that gave Town Council seats to write-in candidates Windy Price and Carolyn Cole.

Price and Cole have 10 days to appeal or else there will be a new vote.

The women beat incumbents Josephine Isom and Charlene Taylor, who challenged based on the winners' residency, problems with absentee ballots and other irregularities.

Price received 64 votes, while Cole got 52 votes. Taylor finished third with 43 votes and Isom received 35 votes.
