NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Inmate Michael Jones, who escaped earlier Friday from minimum-security Coastal Pre-Release Center in North Charleston, has been taken into custody.

Corrections investigators apprehended Jones shortly after noon at the Genesis Hair Salon on Johns Island.

Jones, who works at the salon, was supposed to have reported to work this morning about 9 a.m. but went missing when the salon's owner stopped at a Burger King restaurant en route to the salon.

Jones was last seen at the Burger King restaurant near the intersection of Dorchester Road and Paramount Drive in North Charleston. He was being transported to the Genesis Hair Studio on Johns Island, when the studio's owner stopped at the restaurant and Jones left the owner's custody.

The incident remains under investigation.

Jones, 36, is 5-feet 10-inches tall, weighs about 215 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes. He has a black panther tattoo on his upper right arm, and an Indian tribal tattoo on his upper left arm. He was last seen wearing a black turtleneck and black jeans.

Jones was convicted of insurance fraud in Charleston and started serving a two year sentence on Jan. 28. He now faces a charge of felony escape, which includes a sentence of one to 15 years.

Corrections is investigating the incident, and an escape charge against Jones is pending.
