WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WECT) - A family from the Triad area captured a picture recently of a shark swimming off the waters of Topsail Beach.

The Caudle family contacted the NBC station in Winston-Salem with that story after the news came out that a teenager from Greensboro was bitten over the weekend by a shark.

Christy Caudle told WXII that she was at Topsail with her family on June 17th when some folks warned them about the shark swimming near the shoreline.

"My husband was out there fishing. My son was out there with him when he had just gotten out of the water," Caudle told WXII 12. "We all saw it. It was at least 4 to 5 feet long."

A family member captured a picture of the shark's fin with a cell phone camera.

"Of course, we were scared," Caudle told WXII. "My husband said, 'That shark's not going to bite you.' Needless to say, on Friday we didn't get back in the water."

Emergency crews said they have not yet confirmed that it was a shark that bit the teenager, but it did give parents more to think about as their kids played in the surf.
