COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – The man deputies thought killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself has been charged with murder, Colleton County deputies announced Thursday.

The shooting happened July 25.

Police found Rose Meyers, 57, dead and her husband, 51-year-old Eli Meyers bleeding from a gun shot wound to his neck at the couple's Homestead Drive home.

Deputies received a 911 call from Mr. Meyers early Sunday morning in which the man claimed to have shot his wife. He was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for his wounds.

Colleton County Sheriff George Malone said the shooting is still under investigation.
