CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker says there was a time this summer he thought his college football days were over.
As Colorado's first-round draft choice, Parker figured the major league club would want him to begin his pro baseball career as soon as possible. But as negotiations continued, Parker said he felt like he wasn't ready to abandon Tiger football.
Parker was back on campus Tuesday and took questions for the first time since announcing his intention to play football. The Rockies have through Aug. 15 to sign Parker.
Parker says he will not bail on his football commitment, no matter what offer Colorado makes in the next few weeks. Clemson's first practice of fall camp is Aug. 3.
Parker says he'll carry disability insurance to protect his financial position should he be injured this fall.
