COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - The man convicted of shooting a US Marshal and trying to shoot two North Charleston police officers was sentenced Thursday in federal court.
Terrel Mallard, 31, was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors showed that Mallard opened fire on US Marshal's Task Force officer Alan Ali, Sgt. James Roberts and officer Jonathan Burnem of the North Charleston Police Department when the they were trying to arrest Mallard on a 2008 bank robbery charge.
Mallard was hiding out in a locked bathroom when authorities forced their way into the home, said police. When the officers busted into the bathroom, Mallard opened fire and struck Ali in the ankle.
Roberts and Burnem returned gunfire until Mallard was rendered unarmed.
Ali and Mallard were transported to the Medical University hospital in downtown Charleston for treatment. Mallard was struck several times and was believed to be seriously wounded.
