CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern Head Men's Basketball Coach, Barclay Radebaugh has announced the release of his 2010-11 schedule. The upcoming season is highlighted with opponents from the ACC, SEC, Missouri Valley, Atlantic 10 and Southern Conference in addition to a competitive Big South schedule. The non-conference slate also includes home games vs. local rivals, The Citadel and College of Charleston.
For the second consecutive season, CSU will face off with an ACC school in their season opener. The Bucs tip off with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on November 12, at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum in Atlanta, Ga. The Yellow Jackets finished 23-13 in 2009-10, advancing into the second round of the NCAA tournament before being eliminated by Ohio State.
CSU will host The Citadel and College of Charleston, after playing both teams on the road last season. CSU managed a win at the buzzer vs. The Citadel, before falling to CofC later in the 2009-10 season. Before jumping into Big South competition, the Bucs will also travel to play a SEC member in the Georgia Bulldogs.
"This is without a doubt the most challenging schedule we have faced," said Radebaugh. "I believe this particular non-conference schedule will prepare us extremely well for our rigorous and always challenging Big South schedule. We are particularly excited about the opportunity to host both Citadel and College of Charleston. Also the chance to take a number of our players to their home state of Georgia to play Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia will be a highlight."
The Big South schedule starts on the road, as the Bucs travel to Coastal Carolina for a December 4 meeting. CSU picks up the remainder of their conference schedule after the Christmas break, starting with a pair of home games vs. High Point and Radford. After a stretch of four games on the road, the Bucs will have five of their final seven Big South games played at home, finishing with Gardner-Webb on February 22 and Coastal Carolina on February 26.
The Bucs are looking forward to attacking the upcoming schedule with eight returning players, including four starters. CSU also welcomes back a more experienced group, with the core returners consisting of senior Jamarco Warren (Big South All-Conference First-Team), junior Kelvin Martin, junior Jo'el Lamb, redshirt sophomore Kenny Mitchell and sophomore Jeremy Sexton (Big South Freshman of the Year). After a four game improvement in overall and conference wins during the 2009-10 season, the Bucs show no signs of slowing down in 2010-11.
