CLINTON, SC -

CLINTON, SC (WCSC) - This weekend search crews will be looking for a former Summerville student who vanished without a trace. Authorities say 21-year-old Eric Robertson disappeared Monday from Presbyterian College in Clinton.

Robertson graduated from SHS in 2007, and he was part of the marching and concert band.

"Eric was a charismatic fun-loving guy, kids were very fond of," Leslie Gilreath said.

Band director Leslie Gilreath says Robertson played tenor drums all four years of high school, and he made a huge impact on the whole band family.

"When someone who is as deeply involved in our program for so many years, and their family is so strongly involved, we really hope he is found soon and he's going to be safe," Gilreath said.

Clinton Public Safety Department says the college junior was last seen Monday night at about 11 p.m. Director Stacy Drakeford says Robertson called his girlfriend at 8:30 p.m. that night saying he was on the way to Greenville to see her. Officers later found his cell phone in his dorm room and his car on campus.

"Since his vehicle was located on campus, then it's one or two ways. Either someone came and picked him up or he went walking," Drakeford said.

Police called out the Swansea-based Search Tactical Rescue Recovery, or STARR Team. It's planning to search Saturday and Sunday around PC's campus for clues.

"It will be very difficult. There's hardly any information we have, friends, relatives. It's not going to be easy. It's also one you can't turn down because you don't have the information," Pearrow said.

They will be setting up a grid of the campus at least three miles out in all directions. Up to 25 members will scour the area by boat, ATV, and foot. They hope tracking dogs trained for land and water will sniff out Robertson's path.

"Which will probably be very difficult because if he did walk off or go somewhere Monday, we're looking at 5 days, 6 days of an old track," Pearrow said.

Joe Powell was part of the drum line with Robertson in high school.  He started a missing person page on Facebook to get the word out.

"Musically at a young age he was very talented, in many different fields as well. It was a great program going through with people like him, and it changes you to see when something bad happens," Powell said.

Friends say Robertson has three brothers who were also part of the band, and his mother lives in Summerville.

Police say they have not found anything suspicious. Chief Drakeford says Robertson has major medical issues, but he hasn't described those medical problems.

Robertson may be in the Laurens or Greenville areas. He is a white male, 5'9‘' and 135 pounds.

If you see Robertson or have information on his whereabouts you are asked to contact Clinton Department of Public Safety at 864-833-7510 or Crime Stoppers at 68-CRIME.
