Law enforcement set up DUI checkpoints for New Year's Eve, weekend

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - If your New Year's Eve celebrations involve drinking, be sure to have a designated driver or get a cab.

Law enforcement officers are setting up DUI checkpoints all over the area as part of the sober or slammer effort.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office will be watching for drunk drivers Friday from 3 p.m. to midnight.

Deputies will be out on Maybank Highway, Wadmalaw Island as well as James Island near Grimball Road and in the Awendaw area on Highway 17 North.

In Mt. Pleasant, be prepared to stop at various locations between 10:30 p.m. Saturday night and 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Mount Pleasant police will hold check points at Rifle Range Road in front of Whitesides Elementary and at the intersection of Long Point Road and Seacoast Church. There will also be a checkpoint on Chuck Dawley Boulevard in front of the Spine Institute.
