COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) A Lamar man was arrested Thursday in an Internet predator sting conducted by Charleston police in a joint operation with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.

According to a press release from Attorney General Henry McMaster, 44-year-old John Kyle King was arrested on three counts of criminal solicitation of a minor and one count of attempted criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

According to arrest warrants, King attempted to make contact with an undercover female officer who was used in the operation after a chat session on Dec. 17. He also sent numerous text messages and had several telephone conversations.

Two computers were seized from King's residence by the Darlington County Sheriff's Office pursuant to a search warrant. The computers will be transferred to the Charleston Police Department DEU for complete forensic examination.  A third computer was in King's possession at the time of his arrest.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office provided assistance with obtaining warrants on criminal solicitation of a minor and the Darlington County Sheriff's Office provided assistance with the search warrant.  Additionally, Darlington County and the Hartsville Police Department conducted surveillance in support of the operation.

The above agencies are members of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

King is scheduled to have a bond hearing at 2 p.m. Friday in Charleston County.
