COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina is among 12 states offering shoppers a sales tax break this weekend and it all starts at 12:01 a.m. Friday. The tax holiday runs through Sunday and will take off taxes from clothes, computers and other back-to-school items.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Several dozen students are graduating from a Department of Juvenile Justice program intended to help young people stay away from delinquency and gangs. The agency's Gang Resistance Education and Training program is holding a graduation Friday for 30 young people at the Show Them We Care Teen After School Center in Columbia.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A Tennessee company that operates a family amusement park in the Smokey Mountains is planning a similar park in Myrtle Beach.Reports indicate that the company that operates The Track in Pigeon Forge wants to open a Myrtle Beach location to be operating by the end of 2016.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Luke Kuechly says even though the Carolina Panthers were No. 2 in the NFL in defense last season he sees plenty of room for improvement. Kuechly, the team's middle linebacker and last year's AP Defensive Player of the Year, says lessons can be learned from early season losses to Seattle and Buffalo in which Carolina surrendered late touchdowns.
