CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A joint program to patrol the waterways between the U.S. and Canada puts personnel from both nations in the same boats. To date, 236 personnel from both nations have gone through the program. The training consists of becoming familiar with the laws of both countries.
SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - The state Democratic Party says it is taking steps to remove Willie Lee Bethune from the June House District 64 primary after his conviction for Medicaid fraud. The change will leave Manning Rep. Bobby Ridgeway without a challenger.
FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - A man will spend 30 years in prison after admitting he shot a woman following an argument at a 2011 party in Florence County. Jason McCrea has pleaded guilty but mentally ill to murder. Prosecutors say McCrea has some mental problems, but an evaluation determined he knew right from wrong when he killed Alicia Johnson.
SUMTER, S.C. (AP) - The clocks on the city's Opera House tower in Sumter have been stuck at 12 o'clock for much of this month. The city shut down the clocks for repairs after employees noticed they were slowly losing time, causing them to chime at odd occasions. The clocks are run by elaborate machinery that is more than 100 years old.
