MOORE, S.C. (AP) - A youth minister at a Union church has been killed after he was thrown from a vehicle in a wreck and then struck by a hit and run driver. Twenty-five-year-old Jemel Hillard Lawter was a passenger in a pickup truck pulling a trailer that wrecked on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County early yesterday. He was youth pastor at Morningside Baptist Church. The truck driver was injured.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Lottery officials in South Carolina say three dozen stores have been suspended from selling tickets because of their involvement in the operation of illegal gambling machines. A spokeswoman with the South Carolina Education Lottery says the stores are being suspended for six months because of the illegal machines.

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia state troopers say they're launching a 72-hour crackdown on unsafe commercial vehicle drivers on Interstate 85. Officials say the initiative is being launched today with help from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Two conservation groups are holding a public forum on the impact of using seismic air guns to search for energy off the South Carolina coast and what developing offshore oil and gas could mean for the state's environment. Tonight's session in Charleston is sponsored by Oceana and the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League.
