FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Former state House lawmaker Thad Viers has pleaded not guilty to charges he helped a businessman hide assets from an insurance company. Prosecutors say the 36-year-old former Republican lawmaker from Myrtle Beach helped Marlon Weaver hide assets after he defaulted on a $6 million paving contract.
ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Power says its construction budget remains steady but could change in the future as it builds a nuclear plant near the South Carolina line with Georgia. The Southern Co. subsidiary estimates it will spend $6.7 billion for its share of the cost of building two reactors at Plant Vogtle (VOH'-gohl).

CLINTON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say an 84-year-old man rammed his car into an assisted living home in Clinton and has now been charged with attempted murder. Clinton Public Safety Director Robin Morse says he consulted with prosecutors before filing the serious felony charges against Alton Payton, who awaits a bond hearing.
