    Southern Miss looks to add a Conference USA tournament title to its regular season crown this week in Biloxi. The Golden Eagles (39-15, 23-6 C-USA) open tournament play against UAB on Wednesday at 4 p.m. inside MGM Park. "Certainly, this tournament it's no different than a regional atmosphere, that's what it's about,” said USM head coach Scott Berry.

    Just a month following Larry Watkins retirement from Petal baseball after 38 years of heading the program, Shane Kelly takes the reins of the Panther program. Kelly is an apprentice of Watkins, coaching under him since 2012 and playing for him as a high school student. Kelly was a part of Petal’s 1995 state championship team, After graduating from Petal in 1996, Kelly played baseball for Mississippi State and was eventually drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

    Two Wayne County War Eagles are moving on from high school baseball but they will remain teammates. Tre Williamson and Rodricus Watkins both signed with Coahoma Community College on Monday. "It feels good, especially to be going with one of my teammates,” Williamson said. “It feels good to keep a teammate with me." "Feels great, feels like a new chapter in my life,” Watkins said.

    The city of Hattiesburg held its inaugural “Parade of Champions” on Monday in downtown Hattiesburg. It was an evening to recognize all the state champion teams from Hattiesburg High, Sacred Heart and PCS. "It just sort of came to us that we should celebrate all three of our schools accomplishments in one big event for the entire city,” said Hattiesburg mayor Toby Barker.
