CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - In the last several months, several people have been taken to MUSC with the flu.
"Even though there's a flu season, flu can occur anytime in the year and swine flu is a type of influenza," Doctor Gwyneth Lazenby said.
So even in the middle of summer you need to be aware of the risks. And so do doctors.
At MUSC, caddies are situated outside of patients' doors with everything from plastic robes to rubber gloves, but you have to know how to use the equipment correctly.
Most doctors can figure it out, but a reminder can always help, so MUSC has posted a step by step guide on the website Youtube.
"At MUSC, we're trying to use computer technology to our advantage. The internet has provided a way for us to disseminate education quickly," Lazenby said.
And the education is not only for other doctors and nurses at their hospital, but for all first responders and civilians. They are targeting anyone who wants to log on to Youtube and check it out.
Lazenby says only by becoming aware of the real risks can we keep ourselves safe. "I think anytime it comes to medical conditions fear and misunderstanding lead to bad practice so if you're well educated it'll have a better outcome," Lazenby said.
