NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - It's official. Boeing has landed in North Charleston, bringing with it the prospect of almost 4,000 jobs and millions of dollars for our local economy.

When it came to luring Boeing to coastal Carolina, Governor Sanford said it was truly a team effort.

"I would give credit to the local development team and to workers in North Charleston. Their involvement in the decertification with labor contracts was big in decision making process. I would also credit Senator Lindsey Graham and House and Senate leaders," Sanford said.

Both North Charleston and Charleston Mayors Keith Summey and Joe Riley share Sanford's elation and look forward to Boeing's impact on the Charleston metro area.

On Tuesday afternoon, Boeing made the announcement it will open a second assembly line for its 787 jetliner here in North Charleston.

For the past few months, Boeing has been looking for a site to expand its operation and was considering also considering Everett, WA, as a possible location.

The airplane maker says it chose our area because they said the location would best support its 787 business plan as it increases production rates.

The move will bring thousands of jobs to our area and will pump millions into the local economy.

A ground breaking is expected as early as next month, however, activity won't begin until 2011. We can expect the first aircraft delivery in the first quarter of 2012.
