
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston's Jeremy Simmons has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games February 16-22 the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 23). Simmons averaged 19.0 points and 11.5 rebounds as College of Charleston earned wins over Appalachian State (73-72) and at George Mason (85-83). The player of the week is selected by the conference office.
The junior posted a double-double with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Appalachian State. Simmons shot 9-of-12 from the field against the Mountaineers and pulled down eight offensive rebounds in the win. He then scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in CofC's victory at George Mason Saturday night. It was Simmons' sixth career double-double.
The forward leads the league in blocked shots per game (2.3 bpg) and is second in the conference with 8.1 rebounds per contest. Simmons is 14th in the league in scoring with 12.3 points per game and is second in field goal percentage (.604). It is the second time he has won the award this season.
College of Charleston (19-9, 9-3 SoCon) visits Wofford (21-8, 12-3) Thursday night in a battle of the two teams atop the South Division.
