CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A man is in jail and a woman in the hospital after police say he kidnapped her and held her captive in his house for more than two days.

Police say the saga began Friday evening at Thee Southern Belle, a strip club on Pittsburgh Avenue in Charleston, where officials say the victim works. Police say 34-year-old Johnny Jenkins kidnapped her, but they also say the two had been dating at some point in the past year.

Police say Jenkins then held the victim captive in his house on Doscher Avenue. Around 5:45 Monday morning police say the victim sunk into a bathroom and called 911. When police arrived on scene they say Jenkins refused to surrender. S.W.A.T. and hostage negotiation teams were called to the scene.

Neighbors say the houses on both sides of Jenkins' were evacuated for the duration of the standoff.

For more than two hours Jenkins refused to surrender. Eventually police say his father, Johnny Jenkins Senior, called and convinced his son to surrender. But when Live 5 News talked to the elder Jenkins he said he did not get to talk to his son until he was already in a police car.

Police say Jenkins was taken to the Charleston County Jail, and the victim was taken to M.U.S.C.

Police say when S.W.A.T. went in to search the house they found two handguns, two swords and three assault rifles.

Johnny Jenkins Senior also said his son had been dating the victim for more than two years, and he refuses to believe that his son would have held her captive. In fact, he says he saw his son Sunday evening, and there appeared to be no problems at all at that time.

Other neighbors Live 5 News talked to said they were shocked by the situation because they say Jenkins had always been a quiet, polite man who never caused any problems in the neighborhood.

Jekins remained in the Charleston County Jail Monday night on charges of kidnapping and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and awaited a bond hearing sometime Tuesday.
