Train strikes 18-wheeler in Ridgeville

RIDGEVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Authorities are cleaning up a train accident in Ridgeville Firday afternoon after a train struck an 18-wheeler. Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, Ridgeville Police and Fire, State Transport Police and railroad officials are on the scene.

The accident happened shortly after 1 pm on the railroad crossing at N. Main Street and Railroad Drive, near the Duke's Barbecue. The truck attempted to cross the tracks as the train was passing and was struck just as the cab passed in front of the train separating the cab from the trailer.  The train traveled several hundred yards before it was able to stop.

The driver was injured but was able to get out of the vehicle and has been transported to an area hospital.

The South Carolina State Transport Police is investigating the incident.
