WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - An unattended suitcase on a CARTA bus shut down traffic around Citadel Mall and had police looking for answers Thursday morning.
The bomb squad was called in to investigate and, after analysis by the squad's robot, it was determined the suitcase was empty.
According to CPD spokesman Charles Francis, a man left the suitcase on a bus and the driver became suspicious and called in to CARTA headquarters. CARTA called in police.
As a safety precaution, the bus was moved into a corner of the mall's parking lot and Orleans Road around the mall was shut down.
The bus did have several passengers onboard, but all were unloaded without incident.
Investigators are talking with the owner of the suitcase.
