CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police and campus public safety officials at The Citadel were called to Watts Barracks in regards to a group of cadets creating a disturbance in the residence hall.
About 11 pm Sunday, public safety called in Charleston police after reports of yelling and screaming as well as trash cans being thrown into the middle of the barracks. According to public safety officials, an arrest of a cadet for unruly behavior led to the turmoil inside the building.
Public safety does not know how many students were involved in the incident, but they said it was an isolated problem that involved only a small group within the barracks.
By the time CPD arrived, cadet leadership and college administrators had begun getting cadets back to their rooms, and the presence of CPD supported this effort. The incident was over by about 11:20 pm.
No arrests have been made by either policing agency, but The Citadel is still investigating and will punish those found responsible, according to a released from the Office of External Affairs.
Watts is one of five barracks on the military college's campus.
