CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - An MUSC professor and Charleston psychiatrist is in the custody of Charleston County deputies after he was arrested along with three women in a prostitution bust.

Undercover officers entered Silk Stockings by Amber, a gentlemen's club, at 3346 Business Circle in North Charleston on Oct. 27 where they were solicited for sex by three women.

The women were arrested and the officers conducted a further search of the facility where they found Alberto Benito Santos, Jr. with a collection of prescription medications he was using to pay for sex.

50-year-old Santos was charged with theft and unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of and intent to distribute prescription medication.

Deputies say the presciption medications belonged to his patients.

Santos faced a bond court judge Wednesday evening. Santos said during that hearing that he's done nothing wrong and had the medicine to go to clinics. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.

Santos is a fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists and the American Psychiatric Association. He has published over one hundred journal articles and three books.

Ashley Renee Russell, Elizabeth Nikol Griswold, both 20, and Brandy Henry have all been charged with solicitation for prostitution.
