Jenny Sanford endorses candidate to succeed husband

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's jilted first lady is endorsing a candidate to succeed her husband when the term-limited politician leaves office.

Jenny Sanford issued a letter in support of Republican state Rep. Nikki Haley that was made public Wednesday. The first lady is a former Wall Street executive credited with helping her husband's political rise.

Jenny Sanford and Gov. Mark Sanford have been living apart since he went public with an extramarital affair in June following a 5-day absence from the state.

The governor has long complimented Haley's work in state government and her Web site once displayed a photo of him. The photo was taken down after the scandal erupted.

Haley faces at least four candidates in the June 2010 primary.
