Police make arrest in Thursday's convenience store murder

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man in connection with a shooting death on Russellville Road in St. Stephen Thursday night.

Elijah Muhammed Brown was apprehended by deputies Thursday evening in Pineville, less than 12 hours after he allegedly shot and killed Anthony Alphonse Middleton after a verbal altercation escalated.

According to deputies, an argument escalated into gunfire about 1 pm Tuesday at the intersection of Russellville Road and Highway 35. Chief Deputy Coroner pronounced Middleton, 46, dead at the scene.

Middleton had been shot in the head.

Brown is being held in the Hinckley Detention Center and is expected to go through bond court Friday evening.

    The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is searching for a missing Moncks Corner man.  Authorities are looking for 20-year-old Tyreek Jawaun Pettigrew from Ulmer Lane. Deputies describe him as 5'10" and 150 pounds. According to the sheriff's office, he was last seen at the Fuel Express in Moncks Corner at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
