Hundreds Remember Victims Of Walterboro Drive-By

WALTERBORO, SC -- Nearly 300 family, friends, and community members gathered at Colleton County High School in Walterboro this afternoon to remember the three victims of a November 9th drive-by shooting.

20 month old Shaniya Burden, her 21 year old uncle Chris Powell, and 45 year old grandfather Charles Kitrell were all shot and killed.  This afternoon, their caskets were on display to the grieving crowd for more than two and a half hours.

Childhood friend of Kitrell, Elaine White, spoke briefly during the service.  She stressed a life time of love for Kitrell, a man she called "simply beautiful."

"It's going to be a while," said White, "It's hard, but we have to let go."

Since the shooting, Walterboro police have arrested one suspect they believe to be related to the incident, 19 year old Danziel Chapman.  Police believe he was not acting alone and could be related to a series of other random, violent shootings that followed.  Ten others shot at or injured in the two weeks that have since followed.

"Come forward," said White, "You need to turn yourselves in."

Colleton County Sheriffs deputies who were at the service declined to speak to the on-going investigation, sighting respect for family and friends who were in attendance at the service.
