Garden City Priest goes for $1 million on poker showdown

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Garden City priest will spend the weekend in Los Angeles, playing for $1 million in the PokerStars.net Million Dollar Challenge.

Father Andrew Trapp says he is a bit anxious about his trip to LA for the poker tournament. His church, St. Michael's in Garden City, is raising money for a new building, but sitting about $1 million away from its goal.

If Trapp can win the big prize, construction on the new building begins.

He entered the contest in hopes of showing people there are young priests with normal hobbies. Almost as an afterthought, he realized he may actually be selected for the show and win some money. So he decided to donate any winnings to his parish's building fund.

It is a safe bet to say his congregation is counting on him.

Trapp already won a guaranteed $100,000. On Thursday, he travels back to LA for a chance at the $1 million prize.
