Burial pictures of fetus lead to arrest of 16-year-old in Horry Co.

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Officers with the Horry County Police Department have arrested a 16-year-old juvenile in connection to skeletal remains located in Horry County Monday morning.

Officers were dispatched to a location on 17th Avenue North in Surfside Beach and upon arrival, were shown pictures of what appeared to be a deceased fetus on the 16-year-old's phone. Other pictures shown to authorities included what appeared to be a burial for the fetus.

Police say the mother of the 16-year-old went to an address on Woodwinds Drive in Conway, where she recovered skeletal remains of the fetus. Shortly following the discovery, the Horry County Police Department's Violent Crimes Section was dispatched to the scene, where an investigation was initiated.

Sgt. Robert Kegler with the Horry County Police Department says an investigation revealed the burial of the fetus took place in May 2009.

The 16-year-old has been taken into police custody Monday afternoon as a result of police findings.
