Teacher accused of having sex with student resigns

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A 32-year-old South Carolina teacher accused of having sex with a 13-year-old student has resigned.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported that Norbert Ryan resigned Monday from his job as a social studies teacher at St. James Middle School in Myrtle Beach.

Horry County Schools spokeswoman Teal Britton said Ryan had been on administrative leave.

Police arrested Ryan last Wednesday and charged him with criminal sexual conduct with a minor. An arrest warrant said the girl's father called police. The teen told police she had sex with Ryan twice at his Myrtle Beach home in October.

A judge set his bond at $40,000. Online records show Ryan was still in jail, and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.

A listed phone number for Ryan could not be found.
