SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) - The Air Force is nominating one of the top commanders at a South Carolina base to become a two-star major general.
Brig Gen. Richard Shook Jr., is in charge of mobilizing forces for the 9th Air Force, which is headquartered at Shaw Air Force Base. The unit is responsible for 350 aircraft and 24,000 active duty and civilian Air Force employees and is based in central South Carolina.
Shook has similar responsibilities for U.S. Air Forces Central, which operates in the 20-nation region of the Mideast and eastern Africa.
Shook has served more than 30 years in the Air Force and is a graduate of the Air Force Academy.
