CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Traffic on the Old Ashley River Bridge is flowing again after a water leak near the Holiday Inn.
Traffic was at a standstill for approximately an hour during the morning rush as crews tried to clean up the scene.
According to a South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) employee on the scene, the water leaked from the backlfow preventer at the Holiday Inn.
Because of this morning's cold temperatures black ice was a concern and the Charleston City Police Department shut down westbound traffic on the bridge as a safety precaution.
As a result of the leak, an SUV apparently lost control and slammed into a light pole just south of the Holiday Inn. No word if the driver or any passenger(s) were injured.
No other accidents were reported.
