LINCOLNVILLE, SC (WCSC) - One man is in the custody of deputies and under medical observation after he lost control of a stolen U-Haul trailer and wrecked in Summerville Friday morning.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, a man stole a U-Haul trailer from the Mr. Bees Store in the 41 community of Berkeley County. The man allegedly hooked the trailer up to a blue GMC pick-up truck and took off.

A deputy near Cypress Grade Road spotted the vehicle and tried to stop the vehicle. According to the deputy, the driver appeared to stop at first, then continued on a chase through Summerville that ended at the intersection of Von Ocean and Lincolnville roads where the suspect lost control of the vehicle and wrecked.

The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a wooded area where he was subdued, said deputies.

The suspect has been transported to the hospital for observation.

Multiple charges are pending in the case. The sheriff's office is expected to release a full list of charges as well as the suspect's name Friday afternoon.
