Red Cross responds to another fire, logs 84th fire victim of 2010

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Red Cross helped the 84th fire victim of the new year Sunday night on James Island. The fire was the third of the weekend.

Officials said Sunday night's fire happened on Quail Drive on James Island. They said it started as a result of a pan being left on the stove unattended. It has been ruled an accident.

The Red Cross has provided the four adults and five children living in the home with temporary shelter and clothing.

Two other fires occurred over the weekend in the Lowcountry as well, one on John's Island and the other in Goose Creek.

Investigators said the fire in Goose Creek started in a work shop in the garage of the home around 5 am Sunday. They said the fire didn't spread to the rest of the garage or house but there is some damage. It's been ruled an accident.

On John's Island, fire officials responded to a home on Pine Meadows Street around 2 pm Saturday. One person was home at the time of the fire and was able to escape safely with the family's dogs.

The cause of that fire is under investigation.
