Fire destroys downtown Charleston home's second story

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Three people were displaced from their downtown Charleston home Monday night after a fire damaged much of the second story of their home, fire officials said.

The fire started about 6:30 p.m. as the family sat down to dinner. The fire was spotted by a fourth family member as he approached the house. The family escaped the home and the fire department was called in to extinguish the flames.

None of the family members were injured and the Red Cross has stepped in to assist the family in relocating.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the upstairs and quickly put it out.

Fire officials said the fire was not considered suspicious, but they would continue investigating the fire Tuesday.
