GASTON, SC (WIS) - The Lexington County Sheriff's Department said they arrested a Gaston man accused of inappropriately touching an 88-year-old woman who lives at a residential medical facility near West Columbia.
According to Lexington County Sheriff James Metts, detectives arrested 56-year-old Jimmy Davis Shivers of Gaston at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday on charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and assault with the intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.
Sheriff Metts said the victim's son contacted the sheriff's department and reported that his 88-year-old mother was inappropriately touched by Shivers while his mother resided at Heartland of Lexington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in West Columbia.
The incident occurred while Shivers was visiting another resident at the facility. Shivers did not know the victim.
Detectives determined that Shivers entered the 88-year-old woman's room at the medical facility, placed his hands inside her clothes and inappropriately touched the woman.
The woman has a medical condition that caused her to be unaware that Shivers was inappropriately touching her.
Shivers was being held on Friday at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $50,000.
Metts has asked anyone with information about additional incidents in which Shivers might have inappropriately touched residents at the medical facility to contact the Lexington County Sheriff's Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
