One man attacked, stabbed in St. Helena Island attack

ST. HELENA, SC (WCSC) – The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing that occurred Monday evening on St. Helena Island. The victim's injuries were non-life threatening.

Sheriff's deputies responded to Beaufort Memorial Hospital  about 6:30 p.m. in reference to a reported stabbing victim. Upon arrival, deputies met with a 24-year-old man who told authorities he had been stabbed while walking in the area of Levant Byas Road on St. Helena Island.

The victim told authorities he had been hanging out talking with several friends near the end of Levant Byas Road when they were approached by several unknown black male subjects at 6 p.m. An argument ensued between the groups, at which time one of the suspects brandished a knife.

The victim attempted to flee the area, but the armed suspect caught up with him and stabbed him several times in the back. The victim was then transported to the hospital by a friend for medical treatment.

Deputies have not determined the motive for the attack.

The victim's attacker was described as a black male between 20-30 years of age, approximately 5-feet-11-inches, 180 pounds, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a blue baseball cap.
