WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - After being turned away for prescription medicine at a local hospital, police said a man from New Hanover County walked across the street and robbed a drug store of a large amount of Oxycontin.

The Wilmington Police Department obtained a warrant for Common Law Robbery for Steven Scott Jordan, 50, who was most recently listed as living in New Hanover County.

Police said Jordan went to Cape Fear Hospital with a complaint of pain, but was refused drugs after a pain assessment and his prior medical history was examined.  A release from the police stated witnesses heard Jordan say he would just rob a drug store as he left the hospital.

According to police, Jordan went across the street to Winter Park Discount Drug on Wrightsville Avenue and passed a note to the clerk as a demand for Oxycontin.  After getting the drugs, police said Jordan left.

The man was found early Thursday morning, sleeping at a table in the Waffle House on Market Street.  Authorities said he had approximately 60 Oxycontin tablets in his possession when he was picked up.

Jordan was transported by EMS to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he is receiving medical treatment and has not been charged at this time.
