4:50 p.m.: Highway Patrol officials say the overturned tractor trailer has been uprighted and five people were transported to the hospital as a result of the wreck. Officials have not released information on the severity of any injuries yet.
The Highwawy Patrol hopes to have all lanes reopened on I-26 within 30 minutes.
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol has responded to a serious car accident on Interstate 26 that happened shortly before 4 p.m. Monday.
According to a Lance Cpl. Bob Beres with the SCHP, only one eastbound lane is open and it will take crews at least an hour before the accident is cleared from the roadway.
The Highway Patrol has asked people to find another way around the accident area.
Westbound lanes on the interstate are open; however, there are onlooker delays.
Officials have not made any determination on whether there are injuries yet.
