Chapin man charged for converting government money for self

COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - A 51-year-old man from Chapin has been charged after investigators say he used government funds for his own use.

David P. O'Connor, 51, was charged Thursday in a one-count indictment, alleging he converted over $1,000 in government funds for his own use between June 2006 and June 2008. The maximum penalty O'Connor can face, according to U.S. Attorney Kevin McDonald, is a fine of $25,000 and the possibility of 10 years in prison.

The case was investigated by agents with the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
