Man arrested, charged with shooting at Walterboro night club

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Deputies in Colleton County arrested one man Tuesday morning and charged him with shooting two people inside a night club near Walterboro.

Deputies said Desi Antwuan Elliott opened fire in the Apollo Lounge early Monday morning, injuring two people. By Monday afternoon, deputies had issued a warrant for Elliot's arrest.

Elliott, 26, was charged with two counts of assault and battery with intent to kill and another count of possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Elliott goes by the nickname "Smoke."

Deputies identified the victims as Shonda Donaldson, 35, and Cheumalt Omego Gathers, 26. Gathers was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm and was later released. Donaldson had wounds to her arms and side. She was transported to a Charleston hospital.

Authorities say the victim was last reported in stable condition.

Colleton County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Rivers Street address after receiving a 911 call just before 2 a.m. The shooting is being investigated by the sheriff's office.

The club is located just outside the Walterboro city limits. Walterboro was the focus of a massive inter-departmental crackdown last year after a string of shootings left nearly a dozen people dead or injured.

Elliot is being held in the Colleton County Detention Center.
